1985 Triple Transformations

Performance residency and exhibition with Monica Ross, Shirley Cameron, and Evelyn Silver.

“In Arrival the artists descended the Town Hall steps inscribing women into history by singing their grandmothers’ names. In Monument to Working Women, they symbolically superimposed women workers’ memories of industrialist John Bright over the official inscription idealising him as a philanthropic social reformer. Monica Ross’s solo performance Ghost in the Spinning Mill, in one of Rochdale’s old mills, was based on the actions and sounds that took place there when it was still in production. The audience included women who had worked in such a mill.”
